A state appeals court ordered referenda to overturn Loma Linda's approval of two large housing and commercial developments back on the ballot for voters to decide.
The three-judge panel of the 4th Appellate District, Division 2, in Riverside on Tuesday overruled a decision of a San Bernardino County Superior Court judge two years ago that blocked the referenda from being placed on the ballot in Loma Linda. That decision came just three months before the June 2006 election.
The reversal breathed new life into a campaign by a growth-control group to stop the developments, but just when the referenda will go on the ballot is yet to be determined.
Newly elected Loma Linda City Councilman Ovidiu Popescu, who helped circulate the original referenda petitions as a member of the growth-control group Save Loma Linda three years ago, said he reads the court ruling as a mandate that the measures be placed on the next council election ballot, in June 2010
