A Riverside community group says the redesign of a proposed medical building atop the city's old Chinatown still does not include enough distinct Chinese architectural features that pay tribute to the site's history.
The Riverside Chinese Cultural Preservation Committee is also upset that the developer is unwilling to move the building's footprint away from an area where it says artifacts lie.
The developer says he's made numerous concessions and does not plan to make any more.
Riverside's Planning Commission is scheduled to vote on the project Thursday.
The 4-acre site is a mostly vacant lot on the northwest corner of Tequesquite and Brockton avenues west of downtown. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The building's original design proposal evoked a Mission-style theme.
