Fueled by the Olympics, Inland residents are flooding swimming and gymnastic clubs and club owners are holding open houses and sending out thousands of mailers.
"It's the Olympic boom," said Tim Black, owner of Gymnastique International in Riverside, who said he has received 30 percent more phone calls the past week. "That's what we call it. It's every four years because this is when we, as a sport, get the most exposure."
Black just sent out 7,000 mailers offering a two-for-one Olympic special. A Temecula gymnastic facility held an open house Sunday and hits on its Web site have more than doubled. A Redlands swim club had 20 children sign up the day after the opening ceremony. Children at a Temecula swim club asked to get out of practice early to watch the Olympics.
"It's nice to have those sports on TV, primetime, instead of basketball and baseball, which are always out in the media," said Bryan Davis, Temecula Swim Club head coach
