San Jacinto to name park for former mayor -

SAN JACINTO - The city will dedicate a new city park at 9 a.m. today in honor of native son Wendell Cutting, a former mayor who became chief of staff to a congressman and was active in an international humanitarian rescue group before he died of cancer in 2006.

The park is on Ivy Crest Drive, south of Cottonwood Avenue and west of Lyon Avenue.

"He was a great humanitarian. He was a great friend and a great leader in the Republican Party," Mayor Jim Ayres said by phone. Noting Cutting's civic service and international humanitarian work, Ayres said of the park name, "People like him should be recognized for all the good deeds they have done."

San Jacinto has a policy to name parks for people who have made a substantial contribution to the city or the surrounding community.
