New Hemet Unified middle school opens -

HEMET - Rancho Viejo Middle School, Hemet Unified School District's brand-new campus, opened for instruction Monday, as public schools in Hemet and San Jacinto marked the start of the 2008-09 school year.

The new $34.7 million junior high campus, at 985 N. Cawston Ave., houses 50 classrooms, a gymnasium and multi-purpose room, and choir and band rooms. Rancho Viejo Principal John Huber, who expects about 1,400 students to enroll at his school, said construction had just finished last weekend.

"What an unbelievable facility. Everything's just state-of the-art," Huber said. "The district has really put together a first-class building here."

Next door at newly-expanded Tahquitz High School, Principal Sue Richardson and her staff welcomed Tahquitz's first 11th-grade class and its second freshman and sophomore classes. The high school opened in the 2007-08 school year to the 9th- and 10th-grades only   Read Full Article...
