The evening started out as a typical fundraiser with guests enjoying good food and cool beverages at the Valley-Wide Aquatic Facility.
But members of the Friends of Valley-Wide Foundation quickly turned it into a fun roast of outgoing general manager, Sam Goepp.
The plans for the Aug. 16 event were top secret because all agreed that Goepp would not show if he knew that he would be feted for his 23 years of heading the Valley-Wide Recreation and Park District.
Friends member Tom Wilson is also a member of the Exchange Club, an organization that hosts events that support and benefit Valley-Wide.
"One of the things that got me involved is knowing that when you donate $1 to Valley-Wide programs you get $1.10 back on your investment," said Wilson. "The money is always well spent."
The Friends' group of about 40 members was instrumental in getting the aquatic center near Diamond Valley Lake built
