RIVERSIDE - Flowers and fruit trees are growing again in Dianne Campbell's garden.
She and her husband of 23 years, Dell, planted fruit trees at their Mission Grove home. On birthdays and anniversaries, they gave each other and their four children flowers and plants in pots, which they then transferred to the garden.
Tending the garden was the couple's solace in the evenings.
"That was our little thing," Dell said.
Then Dianne began a yearlong battle with breast cancer. The garden suffered as Dell stayed by her side each day after work.
Trees withered. Plants dried up. The grass died.
But faculty, staff, students and even former students of Harvest Christian School -- where Dell is the principal -- have brought the garden back to life.
Actually, they created a whole new garden.
Tom Newton, the school's physical education coach, said Dell has been a mentor to many people, teaching them the true meaning of being Christian
