Eat dinner as a family. Listen. Build sandcastles at the beach, forts in the living room and play with homemade slime in the backyard. Serve wagon-wheel macaroni with melted butter to show you care. Above all, offer endless unconditional love.

These are just a few of the helpful hints first-time mom Ashley McGee has received from the women in her family, and in this close-knit family, there is plenty of wisdom to be shared.

The birth of Austin Marie McGee on April 2 means there are now five living generations of women in her family. Austin will be sure to get plenty of love with a maternal circle larger than most.

The family has squeezed the generations into 85 years. The matrilineal line is baby Austin; mom Ashley McGee, 23; grandma Sheila Ball, 46; great-grandma Linda Whitlock, 65; and great-great grandma Addie Van Antwerp, 85. Van Antwerp and Whitlock had their first child at 18. And McGee, just like her mom, had her first baby at 23.
