Inland residents put spin on commuting during Bike-to-Work Week -

Inland residents are busy promoting Bike-to-Work Week.

Students who ride their bikes to Magnolia Elementary School in Riverside this week can get a water bottle and flashing light. A Riverside County employee who commutes on bike from Redlands is buying ice cream cones for co-workers who ride to work. The Rotary clubs in Riverside hope other Inland clubs will adopt a program that promotes bike commuting.

Beyond the Inland area, events are planned in dozens of cities in more than 30 states to coincide with Bike-to-Work Week, which ends Friday, and Bike-to-Work Day, which is Friday, according to the League of American Bicyclists, which is promoting the activities.

Inland residents are taking part in the activities to improve their health, avoid paying record gas prices and help combat the region's air quality problems.
