Adriana Lopez scribbled notes as she listened to each to each of the panel members talk about genocide, civil unrest and human rights.
Lopez, 21, of Riverside, was among about 70 people who attended the World Affairs Council of Southern California at the Mission Inn in downtown Riverside on Wednesday.
Lopez is a student in Riverside City College's Model United Nations program. She came to hear the speakers share their stories of living in political turbulent African countries.
"You can do all the research but to understand you've got to be there or talk to the people who lived there," Lopez said.
