Two Corona congregations build alongside each other -

Corona United Methodist Church and Temple Beth Shalom have long been active in interfaith work. Soon, members of both congregations will see a reminder of their interfaith cooperation every time they attend worship services.

New buildings for each congregation are rising a few dozen feet from each other in south Corona. The two will share a grassy area and parking lot.

They will use their close proximity to hold inter-congregational dinners, lectures and other events designed to bring members together and increase understanding about each others' faiths.

"We have a common background of faith and share elements of our religious faith that are important to both Jewish and Christian persons," said the Rev. Jim Hickman, pastor of Corona United Methodist Church.

The Methodist church is scheduled for completion in October. Temple Beth Shalom is hoping to open in January.
