Rialto Unified plans academic success project for African-American students -

RIALTO - School district officials see the lagging academic achievement of black students as a call to action.

The Rialto Unified School District plans to launch an effort this fall related to the national "Education is a Civil Right" initiative to tackle the problem.

The push includes using the services of an achievement gap specialist -- provided through the California Association of African American Superintendents and Administrators at no cost to the district.

Superintendent Edna Davis-Herring, who is vice president of the association, said the "Education is a Civil Right" agenda involves improving the progress of black students, training teachers, increasing high school graduation rates and providing support for parents and families of underachieving African-American students   Read Full Article...
