Fontana police offer tips to zip past NASCAR congestion this weekend -

NASCAR racing is coming to the 92,000-seat Auto Club Speedway in Fontana and so are the fans.

Whether you are heading to the races or just driving by, traffic at peak hours may get heavy, especially on Sunday night.

Qualifying takes place Friday, the Camping World 300 Nationwide Series race is set for Saturday and the Pepsi 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race is set for 7 p.m. Sunday.

According to the Fontana Police Department's Web site, there will be street closures and extreme congestion around Cherry Avenue. Base Line and Foothill Boulevard are also expected to be heavily congested, especially Sunday.

The department suggests:

Using the 210 freeway to travel east/west and avoiding Citrus and Cherry Avenue exits.

Avoiding areas where race traffic will be directed, including southbound Cherry Avenue to Jurupa Avenue and onto either Interstate 15 or Highway 60 and northbound Cherry Avenue to the 210 or westbound Base Line to I-15   Read Full Article...
