Rain hits, but most areas OK

A strong Pacific storm soaked the Inland region overnight, drenching the San Bernardino Mountains, but leaving most Inland valleys relatively unscathed.

A cold storm from the Gulf of Alaska has already dumped more than two inches of rain near Running Springs and the Cajon Pass. The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch through tonight.

That advisory was downgraded from an earlier flood warning after weather officials feared the rain would lead to imminent flooding and mudslides. One rockslide has closed Highway 18 through the duration of the storm, between Snow Valley and Big Bear Lake. The Highway is also closed from Crestline to Lake Gregory Road due to falling rocks and debris.

That winding stretch of the Arctic Circle is already prone to rock slides along its steep cliffs, especially in the burn area following October's Butler 2 Fire. The closure could last through the weekend as scattered showers are expected to linger   Read Full Article...
