At Harvest Crusades, the Rev. Greg Laurie pays tribute to his son -

ANAHEIM - Only three weeks after the death of his son, Christopher, the Rev. Greg Laurie told 29,000 people Friday night at Angel Stadium of Anaheim that if they believe in Jesus as the son of God, they should not fear the ends of their earthly lives.

Laurie, senior pastor of Riverside's Harvest Christian Fellowship, spoke on the first night of the 19th annual Harvest Crusades, which continue tonight and Sunday and travels to Philadelphia and New York in October.

Christopher, 33, died July 24 when his car hit the back of a Caltrans truck on Highway 91 near Corona.

Laurie said it was the worst day in his life. But he said that mixed with his grief was a joy that Christopher had ascended to heaven, which Laurie said is a far better place than the world his son left behind.

"I knew and I know he went into the immediate presence of the Lord," Laurie said. "I never doubted that. What hurts is I miss him."
