A Riverside man has been tasked to help prevent and plan for manmade and natural disasters this week in Denver while thousands of delegates and participants enjoy events and listen to speeches at the Democratic National Convention.
Octavio Rojas is one of two California emergency response experts sent by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to manage disaster preparedness plans before and during the convention. Rojas, a Riverside Police Department reserve officer, will work around the clock to prevent and respond to catastrophes, including mass food poisonings and disease outbreaks, to keep everyone safe.
"It's my job to help identify any problems that may arise," said Rojas, a Medi-Cal program supervisor at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton.
The convention, which starts Monday, is Rojas' third assignment since he became involved in disaster planning and management almost 10 years ago
