Riverside County District Attorney Rod Pacheco may get a massive new headquarters downtown -- but not the one Pacheco had pushed for -- if the county's negotiations with a private developer pan out.
The county could reach an agreement in the next few months to buy Regency Tower, currently under construction, for a price still undecided but no more than $128.5 million, said county spokesman Ray Smith.
Thousand Oaks-based developer Moshe Silagi said the 10-story complex on the corner of 10th and Orange streets could be finished in as soon as a year. If a deal is hammered out, the DA's office could occupy the building in 20 months, according to county documents.
"It should serve the DA's needs for the foreseeable future, and it should save us a lot time and money," Rob Field, the county's facilities management director, said of the proposed purchase
