Almost 700 miles from Miami, nature dealt a crushing blow to the most ill-prepared nation in the Caribbean: Haiti. As usual, our "evil, greedy, capitalistic" Judeo-Christian country was one of the first on the scene in a valiant effort to bring some semblance of order to the chaos ("7.0 quake is 'total disaster' in Haiti," Jan. 13).

Haiti had minimal structure prior to its 7.0 earthquake and absolutely none afterward. The U.S. quickly sent the 82d Airborne Division to establish some order so that our government and charitable organizations could bring in medical care, food, water, shelter, etc. These actions are characteristic of America and its people whenever there is a need: tsunami, fire, flood, and drought, you name it; our "arrogance" is always there in the forefront. Like our "leader," I apologize for our attitude.
