More Inland residents fall behind on paying utilities -

A few years ago when Marvis Tresvan donated to a fund that helps low-income people pay their utility bills, she never thought she'd need the service. Then she lost her job.

Tresvan, 61, and her husband, who is disabled, scraped by for about six months after she was laid off as a notary in the mortgage business. They were facing bankruptcy and foreclosure on their Riverside home when a $319 utility bill arrived.

"We're down to little or nothing," she said.

The couple is among a growing number of Inland residents who are finding it harder to pay for electric, gas and water service. Utility companies are reporting a rise in shut-offs, late payments and requests for help   Read Full Article...
