Some shocked by Murrieta councilman's decision to run for re-election -

MURRIETA - City Hall observers spent two years wondering whether Murrieta Councilman Warnie Enochs would run again despite facing trial on 14 felony counts.

Earlier this month, Enochs surprised many when he turned in candidacy papers and qualified for the November election. If re-elected, it would be his fourth term on the dais.

Enochs' trial on the felony counts, including forgery, extortion and fraud, is set for Sept. 10. If the trial begins then, he could be spending days in court during his re-election bid.

The Riverside County district attorney's office is ready to go to trial if Enochs' attorney, Virginia Blumenthal, is available, said district attorney spokeswoman Ingrid Wyatt. Blumenthal has been in court on another case.
