A Menifee rancher is preparing to surrender an annual tradition of hosting Civil War re-enactments on his land if county code enforcement continues pressing him for a "special events facility" permit.
However, Tom Fuhrman, who owns Wooden Nickel Ranch, says he hopes the code enforcement will relent since 27 Menifee businesses cited for "illegal land use" just got a break.
Fuhrman said he initially tried to comply with a county directive that he needed a special events facility permit to host the war re-enactment and other galas until he realized it could cost him upward of $30,000 for permit fees, engineering drawings and reports.
After a hearing Thursday, Fuhrman said he thinks he may not have to answer to county code enforcement when his property gets incorporated into Menifee in October
