Four Inland hospitals are among 18 statewide to be fined at least $25,000 last week for violations that could have caused serious patient injuries or deaths.
The California Department of Public Health on Monday announced the fines against Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, Kaiser Permanente's Riverside medical center, Loma Linda University Medical Center and San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital in Banning, which was fined for two violations.
The hospitals all corrected problems for which they were fined, one of which occurred almost a year ago, records show. They also remain licensed and certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the federal agency that regulates hospitals.
Loma Linda University Medical Center was inspected and fined following the January overdose of an 8-week-old baby born prematurely. The unidentified baby survived, according to Ken August, spokesman of the state Public Heath Department
