Lake Elsinore hopes a contract with a prominent retail consultant will lead to the city attracting dozens of retailers and bringing cash into its coffers.
The Lake Elsinore City Council, sitting as the Redevelopment Agency, voted 4-1 this week to pay Fort Worth, Texas-based Buxton Co. $50,000 for its services. Councilman Thomas Buckley, the Redevelopment Agency's chairman, voted against the agreement.
City officials and local developers applauded the move as a good step toward expanding Lake Elsinore's retail base.
Buxton helps match cities with retailers. Through a program the company calls "CommunityID," customer analysis and extensive data are used to help cities and retailers identify customer bases.
Buxton also helps cities identify 10 retailers they would like to recruit and creates individualized marketing packets for each one.
