Man seeks probe of Jurupa school board member -

An Anaheim man whose complaint about a Jurupa school board member was rejected by the California Fair Political Practices Commission has sent letters to the Riverside County District Attorney's office and the state's Attorney General's office seeking an investigation of the same board member

The Jan. 28 letter from Denis Fitzgerald alleges that Jurupa Unified School District board member Mary Burns is in violation of Government Code Section 1090 because she benefits financially from having expelled students work without pay at the Jurupa Mountains Cultural Center, the nonprofit earth science center where she serves as executive director.

The code section bars state and local officials from being "financially interested in any contract made by them in their official capacity."

As one of five trustees, Burns votes on student expulsions.
