The long-running saga of Norco's issues with the Maverick Steakhouse has come to at least a temporary end, after city planning commissioners said they're satisfied with the restaurant owner's efforts to clean up his business.
City officials considered yanking the operating permit from restaurant owner Rob Koziel in 2006 after a shooting at a Christmas toy drive, which capped what the city said was a history of law enforcement issues, code violations and residents' complaints about the restaurant and bar.
But instead of closing the Maverick, the Planning Commission set 26 new conditions Koziel had to meet to keep his permit.
Commissioners unanimously decided Wednesday he has met those conditions and chose not to recommend that an independent hearing officer consider revoking Koziel's permit.
"We see no need for a (permit) revocation (or) modification hearing at this time, period," Commissioner Greg Newton said Thursday
