The Grand Terrace City Council will vote tonight on appointing Assistant City Manager Steve Berry as acting city manager until Tom Schwab can return to the job.
Schwab became ill June 12 and was admitted to St. Bernardine Medical Center in San Bernardino, Berry said. He was transferred June 20 to Loma Linda University Medical Center's intensive care unit.
After his stay there, Schwab went to a rehabilitation center for two to three weeks and returned home this past weekend, Berry said.
"He's recovering and getting his strength back," Berry said.
Berry has been city manager pro tem in Schwab's absence. Should the council approve the appointment, Berry would serve as city manager until Schwab returns.
The council discussed Berry's performance review in closed session at the Aug. 12 council meeting and decided to place the appointment item on tonight's agenda
