San Bernardino County is hoping to draw more visitors to Glen Helen Regional Park in Devore with plans to build an equestrian center.
The county put out a request last week asking interested firms or individuals to submit proposals by March. The county could select a project by June and have it open by next year, said Maureen Snelgrove, interim director of the regional parks department.
The proposed equestrian center would include an outdoor arena with bleachers, an indoor covered arena building, stalls and pasture areas on a 25-acre area in the northeast corner of the park now used for camping.
The department proposed the project in response to requests from park users and after visits to other parks in Southern California with such facilities, Snelgrove said.
Glen Helen offers picnicking, camping, fishing and swimming for visitors but still remains underused, Snelgrove said.
"It's a beautiful facility and we would like to have more people up there enjoying it," she said
