1970s Sweet Glitters Again - Vanessa Franko

Last year, Steve Priest took his 23-year-old son to see Eric Clapton, and while watching his son get into the music, inspiration struck the bassist, who was one of the founding members of 1970s rock band Sweet.

"What am I doing sitting on my butt? I should be doing the same thing," Priest said in a recent telephone interview.

So he did what any musician on a mission would do -- put the band back together.

Founding members Brian Connolly and drummer Mick Tucker had died. Priest looked to guitarist Stuart Smith, drummer Richie Onori, singer Joe Retta and keyboardist Stevie Stewart to create the lineup.

Since June, the band has been on tour, and comes to Vibe at Morongo Casino and Resort on Saturday for two shows. Priest said the performances would be recorded for an upcoming live album available at shows.
