Corona gateway signs getting face-lift -

CORONA - The Corona Chamber of Commerce was not part of the World Wide Web in 1993 when it put up four metal gateway signs to encourage people to shop in Circle City stores and markets.

On Tuesday, those signs were taken down to be refurbished, repainted and re-lettered. The chamber's Web address, www.coronachamber.org , will be added.

Landscape architect Baxter Miller said the refurbished signs are needed to draw attention to Corona businesses during these difficult economic times.

Chamber officials, past and present, gathered on McKinley Avenue near Highway 91 to witness the start of the refurbishing process.

Jesus Zamudio, of San Bernardino, Jim Wilson, of Murrieta, Andrew Leon, of Hemet, and Alfredo Arguello, of Riverside, took down the first of the four signs.
