Residents nominated for adoption work
Congressman Ken Calvert, R-Corona, recently nominated Jaci and Eric Hasemeyer as a 2008 Angel in Adoption for their advocacy of adoption and foster care issues in Riverside County.
The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute, which runs the Angels program, is set to honor the Hasemeyers and more than 180 nominees, at an awards ceremony in Washington D.C. on Sept. 16. The Hasemeyers work with Riverside County Department of Social Services on ways to improve the lives of children who are aging out of the foster care system.

Fundraiser set for council hopeful
A campaign fundraiser for Corona City Council candidate Baxter Miller is set from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 9 at West Coast Customs, 181 Via Trevizio in Corona.
