As authorities piece together the events surrounding the shooting death of a 50-year-old motorist by an off-duty Los Angeles police officer, the victim's widow on Wednesday tearfully recalled her husband and wondered whether the killing would be properly investigated.
"I hope there is justice for my family," Jennifer Day said in a telephone interview. "I don't know whether that is going to happen. I hope so."
Robert Scott Day, identified by authorities as a Santa Ana resident, was pronounced dead at Corona Regional Hospital shortly after he was shot Monday outside a deli in Corona. The officer, identified as 28-year-old Antonio Mendez, has been placed on administrative leave.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department and California Highway Patrol are conducting separate criminal investigations over the circumstances surrounding the shooting
