A long-planned redesign of one of the region's oldest freeway interchanges is more than seven years from fruition, but officials stress Highway 91's connection to Highway 71 is a crucial link.
"It's not so much a Corona project as a project of regional importance," said Corona Councilman Eugene Montanez.
A public meeting tonight in Corona will give residents a first glimpse of the $100 million project, which includes a flyover connection from the eastbound 91 to the northbound 71. Maps and drawings of the preliminary plans for the intersection will be available for review.
Caltrans is cooperating with the Riverside County Transportation Commission on the project. The transportation commission is funding the project through the Measure A sales-tax program voters approved in 2002.
Caltrans is responsible for design and construction.
