Colton's El Sombrero Banquet Hall aims to restore business, reputation -

COLTON - A change in clientele has led to a change of heart for the Colton City Council, which has spent the last year trying to shut down El Sombrero Nightclub.

Tuesday night, council members approved a conditional-use permit and dance permit for the embattled venue.

As of this week, with its liquor license expected to be secured, El Sombrero Banquet Hall is open for parties, wedding receptions and quinceañeras -- a turn longtime residents said is worthy of the south Colton landmark's historic past.

"We've put over $100,000 into it to make it a banquet hall. It looks pretty good," said owner Henry Aguila. "Now we just have to change its reputation in that area. Hopefully, by next year it will be prosperous. Now we just have to get the word out."
