A construction worker was killed Tuesday morning when a car struck him as he crossed the Live Oak Canyon Road offramp in Yucaipa.
Just before daybreak, while carrying materials to the job site, Eliseo Oropeza was hit by a motorist exiting the Interstate 10 offramp, San Bernardino CHP Officer Joe Ramos said.
Oropeza was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center but could not be revived, Ramos said.
The driver of the 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse that struck Oropeza was a 17-year-old boy from Mentone, CHP said. Ramos said the driver was not cited at the scene.
The accident investigation by the California Highway Patrol and Cal OSHA kept the Live Oak offramp closed until noon. The construction firm, Riverside Construction Company, stopped work on the $21 million I-10 widening project and does not know when it will resume, company President Matt Pim said
