Water district board members will get reimbursed - BEAUMONT-CHERRY VALLEY: The panel reviews the per diem policy after questions are raised.

BEAUMONT - Following a long discussion, the Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District Board of Directors voted this week to compensate two board members for attending a water conference and another agency's meetings.

The issue arose when director Will Lash was told to repay the district after he was compensated for meeting with the Riverside County grand jury, a $444 payment that was not covered by the district's per diem policy.

Lash paid back the district in full and asked for a review of per diem payments made to his colleagues on the board. The water staff's list included several meetings attended by directors Blair Ball and Stella Parks. According to a May 8 memo from district General Manager Chuck Butcher to the board, the meetings were not covered by the district's per diem policy.
