BANNING - Changes are afoot at the Boys and Girls Clubs of the San Gorgonio Pass.
"We're totally changing up our after-school programs," said Amy Herr, the group's chief executive.
The group will use a curriculum it recently purchased from Scholastic Inc. that Herr said is professionally written and grade-level appropriate. Until now, the group's after-school leaders, who are not teachers, came up with their own curriculum.
Herr said this will give the club's after-school programs -- offered at Central Elementary, Hoffer Elementary and Nicolet Middle School in Banning -- more structure.
Staff members are scheduled to receive training on the new curriculum before classes resume Monday. Herr said the club's after-school programs also will have a more a structured physical component this school year. She said the club will consult with coaches for ideas and have students work on meeting physical education standards
