Little failures result in last-place club - Gregg Patton

RIVERSIDE - Halfway through the Big West season. Halfway back to achingly familiar, depressing territory.

The Highlanders lost another winnable game Thursday night at the Student Recreation Center to another conference team of similar talent, solidifying their spot in the league basement.

UCR used to live in last place for long stretches. Call it old home week. Call it old home month. Just don't call it old home season, just yet.

"We've still got eight (Big West) games and we've been so close," said junior forward Kyle Austin. "I don't think the right thing is to think that far down the line."

No, but a last-place finish is definitely in the realm of possibilities.
