SAN DIEGO - The New York Jets followed their simplistic approach to perfection.
But enough about the winning team.
It was the Chargers who made history Sunday, suffering what surely was as bad a loss as this franchise has suffered in its 50 years of existence.
Happy silver anniversary, everyone!
The Chargers were a big favorite, riding an 11-game winning streak, heading into the postseason with a veteran core of players who were finally all healthy, facing a wild-card team with a rookie quarterback and a Stone Age offense. Was it any wonder a lot of people figured the Chargers as a Super Bowl favorite?
Then they played ineptly, miserably and tentatively.
The fact that it also matters "if things go your way, and they didn't," as defensive end Luis Castillo pointed out, shouldn't have entered into it. The Chargers were the superior team, with legitimate championship aspirations
