'D' or not, Nuggets are threat - Gregg Patton

LOS ANGELES - The Denver Nuggets turned themselves into the second-best team in the Western Conference by introducing a forgotten concept into their game.

Guarding their men.

Friday night at Staples Center, Denver relapsed against the Lakers, reverting to their Wild West shoot-em-up days, and won anyway, 126-113.

The de-commitment from defense came on both sides, the guarding so raggedy and transparent that it looked as if the two teams were warming up for the All-Star Game.

In the end, the Nuggets were able to sustain their marksmanship through the fourth quarter, pulling away with a three-point clinic. By then, the Lakers simply appeared to have tired out their shooting arms.
