Digging up history used to be a chore.

If you wanted to find out about something that happened in San Bernardino County 100 or more years ago, you had to visit the local history rooms -- such as those at the Feldheym and Smiley libraries -- and bury yourself among books, newspaper clippings and microfilm.

Depending upon what you're looking for, that process is still, for the most part, unavoidable.

However, the Internet is beginning to change things.

Now you can go online to find out that Matthew Cleghorn, for whom Cleghorn Road near Devore is named, left his home in Scotland at age 12 and soon found himself fighting for the United States in its war with Mexico.
