Ducks needed win a little bit more -

ANAHEIM - The old desperation cliché was being liberally thrown around the Ducks' dressing room Monday night. Yet isn't everyone in the NHL desperate at this time of year?

Either you're playing for a playoff spot, playing for a higher seed, or playing with one eye toward the trading deadline.

The Ducks, at least, have put themselves in position for the first item. Monday night's 4-2 victory over the Kings was huge, in their minds, more because it moved them within three points of a playoff spot than because it ended their rivals' nine-game winning streak.

Or so they said.

The sign of the Ducks' need for this game -- let's avoid the D-word -- was in their renewed willingness to crash the net and get in Jonathan Quick's line of vision. It reached comical proportions early in the second period when Corey Perry knocked in a rebound while hanging all over Quick in the crease.
