Coyotes benefit from Leduc's eligibility issues - Jim Alexander

SAN BERNARDINO - It is to the immense benefit of Cal State San Bernardino men's basketball that the NCAA's ponderous rule book lacks humanity, or logic.

If it did, or if administrators considered circumstances along with the letter of the rules, Bryan LeDuc would be playing his final season at the University of the Pacific right now.

Instead, he is the heart and soul of the Division II Coyotes.

The 6-foot-8 graduate student is Cal State's leading scorer (14.9) and rebounder (7.7), and his maturity and leadership have helped the Coyotes toward an 11-4 record (9-2 in the CCAA) going into conference road games at Cal State East Bay tonight and UC San Diego on Saturday.

The reason LeDuc went from Big West Sixth Man of the Year in 2009 to a likely candidate for CCAA Player of the Year? One semester, way back in 2006, when he attended school with no intention of even playing competitive basketball.
