Big hire could make RCC football relevant again - Jim Alexander

Is it fair to call Riverside Community College's football program a sleeping giant?

You be the judge. In the aftermath of Bill Brown's resignation as head coach Nov. 30, the school received more than 90 applications for the job.

In fact, when Athletic Director Barry Meier got back to his office after the Christmas break, more than two weeks after the application deadline had passed, he still had "10 to 12" resumes waiting for him.

"It was a great pool," Meier said Wednesday. "We had our pick, and we think we narrowed it down to some excellent choices. The person we send to the board is going to be a fantastic pick in our eyes."

The political reality is that nothing can happen until the chancellor, Dr. Gregory Gray, chooses a candidate and sends his name to the Riverside Community College District board of trustees, which will vote yea or nay at its next meeting Jan. 26   Read Full Article...
