Alexander: Real hockey fans in our midst -

ONTARIO - Don't ever let anyone tell you that nobody in Inland Southern California cares about hockey.

The evidence may be only anecdotal. But an hour before the American Conference's 10-9 shootout victory over the National in Wednesday night's ECHL All-Star game, a stroll around the concourse at Citizens Business Bank Arena confirmed my suspicion: People don't show up to watch the Reign simply because it's local, or relatively cheap.

There were plenty of people wearing the home team's jersey, as there should have been. But I counted sweaters from 18 other teams, too. Not only all of the various versions of Kings and Ducks togs -- including that hideous Wild Wing alternate jersey the Ducks wore in the mid-'90s -- but Canadiens and Maple Leafs. Blackhawks and Red Wings. Flames and Oilers, Sabres and Penguins, Las Vegas Wranglers and Phoenix Roadrunners and Cornwall Aces.
