Rivers deserves MVP consideration -

SAN DIEGO - In the national conversation, the NFL talk driven by the TV talking heads and the Web and print correspondents always centers around the same quarterbacks: Brady, Manning the elder, Manning the younger, Favre, Roethlisberger, Brees.

Doesn't it bother Philip Rivers just a bit that his accomplishments, and those of his team, usually get bumped down to the second tier?

"It's almost better this way," he said. "As a team we've been down that road, where we got all the offseason hype and all that, and it didn't work out quite the way we wanted it to."

Part of it is the consequence of being tucked away in a smaller market in the lower left-hand corner of the NFL map. (No, we didn't say Eastern bias. But draw your own conclusions.)

Another part is the one item that has as yet eluded these Chargers and their quarterback: a Super Bowl ring.
