Radio stars play Hemet -

Moreno Valley and San Gorgonio Pass residents interested in Americana culture should consider driving to join San Jacinto Valley music lovers this weekend.

Today, at 2 p.m., retired music teacher Diane Mitchell will present a talk in the Hemet Public Library titled "Jazz Beginnings -- Ragtime and Boogie."

It will be one of her articulate previews of concerts presented by the Hemet Community Concert Association.

Her presentation precedes a Butch Thompson Trio concert that begins at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in First Southern Baptist Church, 433 S. San Jacinto St., in Hemet.

The trio has enjoyed a longtime association with Garrison Keillor's superb "A Prairie Home Companion" National Public Radio show.

Mitchell and her husband, Peter Odencrans, are longtime listeners.
