Sam Maloof, going strong at 92, will be honored as Artist of the Year on Saturday at the California State Fair in Sacramento. He will be at the fair Saturday and Sunday and his works will be displayed through Sept. 1.
Maloof, who lives in the Alta Loma area of Rancho Cucamonga, is a woodworker whose furniture sells for tens of thousands of dollars and is in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Boston Museum of Art and the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The Maloof Foundation has also announced an exhibition by the Plein Air Artists of Riverside at the Jacob's Center gallery Sept. 6-27 from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursdays and Saturdays. There will be a 4-6 p.m. reception Sept. 13. Many of the paintings were done on the grounds of Maloof's home, studio, office and gallery at 5131 Carnelian St., Rancho Cucamonga.
