Charter Cove falls short in state tourney

YOUNTVILLE, CA - Charter Cove Post 755 suffered its first loss of the season in the American Legion state playoffs with a 12-11 setback Sunday, losing in 10 innings to Lakewood Post 496 at Cleve Borman Field.

Lakewood rallied to score five runs in the last four innings to stay alive in the six-team double elimination playoffs.

Charter Cove (26-1) must now win two games today to advance to the championship game on Tuesday. Northview High School's Aaron Elias will start against Burlingame today at 12:30 p.m.

"Even though it's only our first loss of the season, it couldn't come at a worse time," coach Jon Garkow said.

"We left too many runners (12) in scoring position and it proved to be our downfall. Now we'll find out what kind of character this team really has."

Post 755 left the bases loaded five times, with 20 runners stranded overall.
