LOS ANGELES - It's going to take a lot to beat the Charter Cove American Legion Post 755 baseball team.
Palisades Post 283 took its best shot Saturday, but fell short, losing 7-1 in the 6th Area semifinals at UCLA.
Matt Ayers had four hits and two RBIs, Matt Winkler contributed a key RBI double to break a scoreless tie in the sixth and Aaron Elias was steady on the mound as Charter Cove improved to 24-0 and advanced to today's championship round against Loyola at 11 a.m.
Charter Cove, which won this tournament last year, will throw Covina High School graduate Tyler Pill in the first game, with Charter Oak grad Tyler Garkow waiting in the wings if a second game is necessary.
"They were a quality team," Charter Cove coach Jon Garkow said. "They threw their best stuff at us and took ours and we took theirs, but every day it seems someone else steps up. Today it was Matt Ayers.
