Charter Cove reaches Area semifinals, 12-1

LOS ANGELES - It's no secret the strength of the Charter Cove American Legion Post 755 baseball team lies with its pitching. But it also can hit.

Charter Cove proved it Friday.

Outfielder Keith Nyeholt had four hits to lead a 16-hit attack and Charter Cove cruised to a 12-1 victory over Diamond Ranch in a 6th Area tournament game at UCLA that was halted after seven innings because of the 10-run rule.

Charter Cove improved to 23-0 and faces either Pacific Palisades or Vasquez in today's semifinals at 2 p.m.

Diamond Ranch, which scored its only run in the second inning, was eliminated.

Nyeholt went 4 for 5 with a double and scored three runs. He's now 7 for 9 in the tournament after going 3 for 4 in Thursday's 3-0 victory over Loyola. Charter Cove, which led 4-1 after two innings and 7-1 after four, also received multiple-hit games from Jonah Northrop, Matt Ayers, Josh Surdo and J.C. Torres   Read Full Article...
